Burial on March 2, 1911 in Vienna Home Advisor, Vienna MO, 2 Mar 1911. JOHN PHILIP BADE DEAD - In his residence in Vienna surrounded by his family John Philip Bade breathed his last at 7:30 a.m. last Tuesday Feb. 28th 1911. His demise was so quiet that those around him hardly noticed the transition. Tuberculosis of the lungs had attacked the deceased a few years ago and despite all that could be done the patient wasted away. J.P. Bade was born in 1856 near St. Thomas Mo. His father died in 1859 and his mother in 1863. Deprived of his parents young Bade received the tutelage of John Mutchmann of Cole Co. When 19 years of age the deceased came to Vienna, that was the year 1875, Feb. 10th. A marriage with Margaret Fennessy was solemnized Jan. 9th 1877. A child of this union died. The second marriage June 26 1883 to Miss Margaret McKeever also took place in Vienna.

Eight children were born to the Bades. Three are dead. The children yet living are: Mrs. Tony (Rosa) Otto, of Vienna, Neil A. and John Henry, Agnes Frances and Levira Augusta Bade, the youngest and now 12 years old. The departed enjoyed the esteem of his fellow citizens. An evidence of which is had in the instance of his being twice elected treasurer of this county. His tenure of office extends over the years from 1888 to 1892. As a workman at his trade J.P. Bade was a master. At shoe and harness making he was certainly down-to-date.

While his hands were busy with waxed thread and needle his head worked incessantly. A special bent for practical contrivances was his. The two patented inventions, window-shade and collapsable egg case are samples of his mental activity on mechanical lines. But the metaphysical was not without attraction for him. Whilst he felt his mind was not tutored enough to venture in to daring hights of abstract speculation his quick conception easily let him follow with interest speculative themes that fail to prove attractive to the average mind. Unless coaxed in to a discussion J.P. Bade was mostly of a reticent disposition. But those who knew him closer were aware that to converse with him one need only to take the lead. The qualities of his heart are attested by the devotion of his family and the esteem of his friends. As a business man J.P. Bade was successful enough to provide his famiy amply including liberal educational allowances. He leaves his devoted wife and her dependents a good competency. In his sickness a resignation and spirit of patience was evinced that indicated no undue anxiety about the things that were to come. He is dead. May his soul receive the mercy of God. We will pray for him. The funeral obsequies takes place this morning in the Parish Chruch in the building of which he took an abiding interest.

Miss Elisabeth McKeever came from St. Louis yesterday morning to be present at the Bade funeral. Among those from a distance we noticed at the Bade funeral Thursday were; from Argyle: John Grant, his son Neil, his daughters, Misses Catherine and Mary; Anthony Reinkemeyer and son Frank; from Brinktown: T.J. Fennessy and son Joseph, and daughter Miss Ella, John and Steve Heimann, Eddie Viesmann.
