Biography

Joseph George Badger was born on 25 August 1853 and was baptised on 12 September 1853 at Pietermaritzburg[1]. He was the son of Jonathan Badger and Elizabeth Matthews. His father was a Carpenter.

His father Jonathan died on 3 December 1868. His mother Elizabeth probably remarried, but died on 29 June 1874.

At the age of 26 he married 18 year old Jane Wood on 18 February 1880 at Pietermaritzburg, Natal Colony[2].

They had at least two children:

  1. Elizabeth Mary Badger (b. circa 1884, m. 29 Jan 1914 Charles Victor Braithwaite)
  2. William Herbert Badger (b. 19 Aug 1891, d. 20 Oct 1938)

Joseph was a Farmer. He lived at Vaalkop, Rosetta Station.

He passed away on 21 April 1892 due to Cardiac Disease[3].

His widow Jane died on 4 July 1938[4].
