Madie was born in 1918, the oldest of 6 children to Marcus Martin Baggett and Rosa Mae Grizzard. Her siblings were: Living, Charlie Lee, Clyde, Rose Lavada, and Living.

She may have divorced Ralph before 1972. Her obituary says she left Atlanta in 1972 and moved to Pensacola. She fostered several children and adopted at least one child. Her obituary names her as "Madie Richards Hunt", but she may have married Mr. Hunt before 1982. Records was not found to confirm.

She remarried in 1982 to Herschel Edwin Richards, son of Edgar Gee Richards and Julia Agnes Chester. She was about 74 years old and was his second wife.
