THE LATE MR. A. BAILEY.
Brought home from Moree on the 17th instant seriously ill as the result of a paralytic stroke he had there on the previous Saturday, Mr Andrew Bailey, a well-known resident of the Maitland district, lingered until noon, on 20th instant, when he passed away at his residence in High-street, West Maitland. For several years Mr Bailey had not been in the best of health and a month ago he went on a visit to Moree. He appeared to be doing well until the seizure on Saturday. When he arrived in Maitland on Tuesday, he was taken to Cintra Private Hospital, but his condition was such that yesterday his relatives brought him to his home. He lapsed into unconsciousness during the day and remained so until his death. Mr Bailey was born in the Hawkesbury River district 71 years ago. On his marriage, he went to Singleton, and later to the Clarence River, where he spent a number of years. Returning to Singleton, he remained in business there for eight years and 21 years ago he came to West Maitland and acquired the butchering business of the late Mr Henry James and which in partnership with his sons, he has carried on since. While in Singleton he took an active part in public affairs and, amongst other positions, he was an alderman for some time. He declined several requests to stand for similar honours in Maitland.
