Recent Weddings.
HALKETT - BAILLIE.
Holy Trinity Church Devonport, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday evening, February 26th when Jessie Joan Baillie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Baillie of Albert Road, Devonport, was married to John Alfred Halkett, only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Halkett, of Rotorua.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. A. Greenwood, an old friend of both families. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride with beautiful blooms of white asters and gladioli, end trails of lacapodium tied with white satin ribbon marked the guests' pews.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of ivory satin cut on classical lines. In back and front, diamond-shaped panels allied the skirt to the bodice, which was cut high on the throat in two points. Rows of stitching outlined the neckline. The skirt was full, flowing into a long train, with rows of Italian quilting. A long veil of tulle flowed with her train and a shorter shoulder veil, fastened with topnot of opalescent orange blossoms, was worn over her face till after the ceremony. She carried a bouquet of white begonias.
Miss Margaret Baillie, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid, and wore a frock of ivory moire taffeta. The bodice was fashioned in Grecian style, and the hem quilted in a design of daisies. Her hiplength coat was ruched on the shoulders and quilted on lapels and peplum to match her frock. She wore a headdress of white gardenias and carried a bouquet of lilies.
Mr. Frank Jagusch carried out the duties of best man. During the signing of the register Mrs. M. Frater artistically sang the solo "Thanks Be to God."
After the ceremony a reception was held in the Navy League Hall, which was effectively decorated with festoons of greenery and white begonias. Mrs. D. Baillie received the guests wearing a smart ensemble of navy SanToy crepe, trimmed with white fox fur. She wore a small hat to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink pompom dahlias. Mrs. J. Halkett, mother of the bridegroom, wore leaf-green crepe, with a threequarter length coat of black taffeta and a small black hat with an eyeveil. She carried a sheaf of autumn tinted gladioli. After the customary toasts had been honoured and the bride's cake cut, dancing and games were much enjoyed, also vocal solos sung by Mrs. M. Frater and her daughter, Mrs.Frater acting as pianist.
