Biography

Mary was born in Iowa in Feb 1891,[1] the daughter of James Baker and Lizzie Bravener.[2] (see research notes) After the death of her father, her mother married William A Birkhead. Their family lived in Santa Ana, California; her step-father worked as a laborer.[1] In 1910, Mary (19) was a telephone operator.[3]

Mary (22) married Paul Leslie Talbott (22) on 12 Jun 1913 in Santa Ana, Orange, California.[4] They had two sons:

Their family lived in Los Angeles, California; Paul worked as a tile setter.[7]

Her husband, Paul died in 1928.

In 1931, Mary (36 and widowed) was living with her two sons in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California; she was working as a telephone operator.[8]

She later married her first cousin, Russell James Wheeler. They lived in Los Angeles, California with her two sons; Russell worked as a butcher in a retail meat market.[9]

Mary died (age 93) in Los Angeles, California on 5 September 1987; she had been residing in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California.[10][11] She was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California.[12]
