Edwin was born on 12 Oct 1837 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. His parents were Harlan Baker and Hannah Eastburn/Eastman Baker.[1][2]
Edwin was mustered into service with the Union Army on 22 Jul 1861 as a Private in Company H, 42nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry (The Bucktails, also known as the 13th Reserves, the 1st Rifles, and Kane Rifles) for 3 years. Promoted to Corporal. [3][4]Transferred to 190th regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers on 31 May 1864. Mustered out at end of term on 22 Jul 1864. [5][6] The Bucktails are Pennsylvania's most famous Civil War unit.
The Bucktails are Pennsylvania's most famous Civil War Regiment. Raised as a company of riflemen, the volunteers arrived at muster wearing civilian clothes and a buck's tail in his hat - a symbol of his marksmanship. The Bucktails were engaged in many battles, significant examples include South Mountain Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg.[7]
He married Abby Jane Baker [1] on 7 Nov 1866 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.[8]
Edwin had lived in South Pasadena, California for 51 years prior to his death. He was a retired rancher.[1]
