Death
On 8 Apr, 1950[6][7], whilst on a family holiday during the Easter break, Victor, his brother Leslie, and their brother-in-law Arthur, were fishing on rocks near Morna Point when a freak wave hit the three men. Leslie and Arthur were knocked backwards onto the rocks and were able to get themselves to safety, however Victor fell forward into the ocean.[8] His body was discovered on Boat Harbor beach 5 days later.[9]
From The Newcastle Sun, dated Monday 10 Apr, 1950 on page 3:[5]
"Police and fishermen continued the search over the weekend without result for the body of Victor Frederick Baker (31) of Farnsworth St. Thornton, who was washed from the rocks while fishing at Nelson Bay on Saturday."
Cremation
Victor was cremated in Apr, 1950 at Newcastle Memorial Park, Beresfield, New South Wales, Australia.[7]
