Biography

Although more commonly seen with sons than daughters, at this time in history two living siblings with the same name and the same father but different mothers were sometimes seen. This Sarah, born 11 July 1666 at Watertown, was the second of her name born to John Ball Senior.

She married at Watertown on 12 March 1684/5 Allen Flegg or Flagg[1] by whom she had 9 children-- 3 sons and 6 daughters.[2][3][4]

Death & Estate

Her unsourced Findagrave memorial Find A Grave: Memorial #194400422 asserts a 1709 death year and burial at the "Old Burying Place" at Watertown. Their daughter Sarah died at Watertown on 2 Dec 1695 (daughter of John & Sarah Flagg)[5] and since a will for Allen Flagg has apparently not been found, we apparently have no reliable source for the date of Sarah's death. This profile originally gave a death date of 11 Nov 1711, the same date as her husband which is also unsourced and therefore has been removed.

(Hopefully) Resolved Origins

This Sarah seems to be the second of her name born to John Ball Senior and his second wife, Elizabeth Fox. A handwritten transcription copy of Middlesex (Massachusetts) town records written by Thomas Danforth starting in 1663 (and therefore contemporaneous written by a person with likely first-hand knowledge i.e. as "primary" as we are likely to get) clearly lists her mother as "Elizabeth".[6] A much later, typewritten transcription changes her mother's name to "Sarah" with no note or explanation.[7] The rest of the entries match between the transcripts except this one. The most logical interpretation is that the typewritten transcript accidentally wrote Sarah's mother as "Sarah". This resulted in the obvious interpretation that Sarah Ball who was born in 1666 was the daughter of John Ball Jr and his wife Sarah Bullard

The father should be Ball-321, not Ball-322. Ball-322 is the father of Ball-321.

Her mother was Elizabeth, not Sarah. The handwritten copy of the town records (Volume 3 started in 1663) clearly listed Elizabeth as her mother. The much later typewritten transcript changed this to Sarah. Primacy must be given to the original record and therefore she was the second of her name, born to John Ball Sr. and his second wife Elizabeth Fox. None of the books cited on her profile which asserted her parents to be John Ball Jr. and Sarah Bullared listed a source for their assertions.

Ball-2442 and Ball-961 appear to represent the same person because: We probably have to set these as Unmerged match. The dates and spouse are the same, but the parents are different. Needs to be resolved.

Ball-2433 and Ball-961 appear to represent the same person because: Same name and birthdate.
