Biography

Valentine was born on 31 March 1706 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex, Virginia, USA. He was the son of Henry Ball and Alice Mary (Brooks) Ball.[1]

When Valentine was 26 he married on 31 January 1733 at an unknown location.[1]

Probate

  • Will dated Jan 12, 1769 and probated March 5, 1770, Amherst Co, Va. It listed his wife as Susanna and gave one shilling to eight persons - apparently his children - including one named Alice Wright. "In the Name of God - Amen. The twelfth Day of January in the Year of our Lord MD CCLXIX, I, Valentine Ball of Amherst, Planter, being very sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God for the same, & Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. That is to say, Principally & first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul unto the hands of God that gave it and for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like & Decent manner at the discreation of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God , and as Touching such worldy Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life , I Give, Devise & Dispose of the Same in manner & form following, that is to Say In the first place after my Debts are paid I lend all & Singularmy whole Estate to Susanna Ball my well beloved wife during her natural life. I also give & bequeath to James Ball, Lewis Ball, Alice Wright, Sarah Bowman, Susana Heughs, Elizabeth Heughs, John Ball & Mary Hargrove one Shilling Sterling each to be levied out of my Estate. I also Give to William Ball my well beloved Son the Land and Plantation whereon I now live after his mother's decease. I also give & bequeath to Jane Ball, my well beloved daughter, after her Mother's Decease, all and Singular my household Goods of all kinds, Stock, Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Hogs & also the Negro Man named Will. I also give and bequeath to Capn Henry Key one five Shills whom I also Constitute and Ordain with Susanna Ball Executor & Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly Disallow Revoke and Disanul all and every other former Testaments, Wills & Legacies Requests & Executors by me in any ways before this time named, willed and bequeathed, Ratifying & Confirming this and no other to be my last Will & Testament, In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Day and Year before written. Valentine Ball Signed, Sealed, Published, Pronounced & Declared by the said Valentine Ball as his last Will and Testament in presence of us the subscribers: Mary Key, Judith Tolley (their marks), William Bishnell"

Ball-5314 and Ball-532 do not represent the same person because: Someone has posted a story on Valentine Ball 1706 VA - 1770 VA profile page on Ancestry and they say their claim to Edward Ball and Keziah Osborne being his parents is based on multiple autosomal DNA matches and another man left a comment that he also has multiple autosomal DNA matches to Edward and Keziah being his parents...
