Lydia was born in 1755. She was the daughter of John Ballard and Sarah How. She passed away in 1843.
Lydia Ballard and William Shaw resided in Monson/Palmer, Massachusetts and Butternuts (later Gilbertsville), New York.[1] In 1790, the household of William Shaw was recorded at Palmer with eleven persons: one male 16 and over, five males under 16, and five females.[2]
On 29 April 1793, William Shaw of Monson, for payment of £118, purchased of William Cooper and De La Forrest Consul General of France a tract of land in what was commonly known as the Morris patent containing 100 acres. On 8 February 1796, William Shaw of Unadilla purchased from Joseph Beckwith a tract of land on the south side of Calhoun Creek for payment of £10, also part of the Morris patent.[3]
William Shaw, Jr. and his wife Lydia were founding members of the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville on 2 May 1797. William was celebrated as a wolf hunter.[4]
The household of William Shaw, Jr. was twelve persons at Butternuts in 1800: one male 45 and over, one female 26 to 44, one male under 10, one male 10 to 15, four males 16 to 25, one female under 10, and three females 10 to 15.[5]
On 17 February 1801, William Shaw 2nd of Butternuts, in consideration of $200, conveyed to David Shaw 2nd of Butternuts a tract of land in Butternuts. On 9 October 1806, William Shaw of Butternuts, in consideration of $313.50, conveyed to David Shaw a lot in Butternuts being part of lot number six of the Otsego patent.[6]
Lydia Ballard and William Shaw were parents of likely ten children.[7]
