Sergeant Andrew Ballard Sr. served in the United States Civil War.

Andrew Ballard Sr. was a Prisoner of War during the United States Civil War.

Andrew was born in 1841. He is the son of William Ballard and Martha Beene.

Civil War Service

Andrew enlisted at the age of 20 years old at Knoxville, Tennessee on 19 August 1861. He was captured by the Union at Marietta, Georgia on 17 June,1864. He was sent to a Military prison in Louisville, Kentucky, 24 June,1864 and was then transferred to the U.S. Navy Barracks at Rock Island, Illinois (P.O.W. Camp) on 6 July, 1864. Paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina May 1, 1865.

Andrew fought in the Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, Battle of Murfreesboro, Battle of Chickamauga and Battle of Marietta, Georgia. Andrew fought in the same battles as his father Ballard-227 William until his capture at the Battle of Marietta.
