Biography

Alfred was born in 1897. He was the son of Henry Bollmann and Mary Hoffmann. In the 1900 census Alfred (age 2) was the son of Henry Bollmonn in Wayne, Bartholomew, Indiana.^[1] In the 1910 census Alfred (age 13) was the son of Henry Bollmonn in Wayne, Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.^[2]

Alfred was in the military.^[3] In the 1920 census Alfred (age 23), Laborer, was the single brother of Fred Ballman in Seymour Ward 2, Jackson, Indiana.^[4]

Alfred died (age 30) on 20 June 1927 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, United States.^[3] A portion of an aging concrete retaining wall, 75 feet wide and 15 feet tall, gave way on the west bank of the White River. and Alfred was crushed. Alfred's brother-in-law Charles Stockoff was just north on the Emrichsville Dam when he heard a grinding noise and shouted a warning. Another brother-in-law Noah Bowman and Noah's son Earl, age 5 (Alfred's nephew), were able to run to safety, as did Charles and his brother Frank Stockoff. Alfred was stooped over looking for minnows and may not have heard the call. Police were able to remove the crushing concrete, but Alfred died from internal injuries.^[5][6] He was buried on 24 June 1927 in Saint Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery north of Seymour in Wayne Township, Bartholomew County, Indiana.^[7]
