Dora was born on December 12, 1924 in the Hamlet of Jarrow, Alberta. She was a daughter of Percival/Perry Reuben Bamsey and Jessie Alice (Davidson) Bamsey.[1]
She had two brothers and four sisters. By 1943, they lived in Edmonton.[1]
Her hobbies included skiing and bicycle riding.[1]
She left school at 18 after two years of high school.[1]
Dora enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division on February 23, 1943. The RCAF was the first division of the Canadian military to recruit women, many of had previously been denied an opportunity to serve in the war effort. Alice was one of 17,038 women who served in the RCAF during the existence of the original women's division.[1]
Her unit trained at Rockcliffe and Toronto in Ontario before she was posted to Vulcan, Alberta in May of the same year.[1]
She died on June 6, 1943 in Vulcan while on active duty of Acute Bacterial Endocarditis. She was interred at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Edmonton.[1][2][3][4]
