Preceded by David Barclay |
10th Baron of Mathers 1560-1607 |
Succeeded by Thomas Barclay |
George Barclay was likely born around 1536 and was certainly of age in 1560 when he takes possession of the estates of Mathers.[1]
His first wife was Mary Erskine, daughter of Sir Thomas Erskine of Brechin, Secretary to James V. His second wife was Isobel Wood, daughter of the laird of Bonnington. She was probably a sister of David Wood of Craig, who filled the office of Comptroller in the service of the same king. The son of this second marriage acquired the lands of Brigton and Jackston.
