Biography

This profile is part of the Pleasantville, Iowa One Place Study.
Oren Harrison Bare was born on 16 March, 1859 in Pleasantville, Marion Cty., IA[1]. According to his obituary, Oren was born on 18 March, 1881 on the homestead three miles west of Pleasantville[2].
On 21 Jan., 1886, Oren married Marilla in Madison, IA[3]. He was living in Pleasantville (Iowa) in 1892 according to the 1892 Iowa Farmer's Directory[4]. Oren was a druggist according to the 1895 census, see census below. Oren took a trip to Spirit Lake, IA on March 25, 1901 for a weeks duck hunting[5], returning home by 31 March, 1901 according the Express newspaper[6]. He also traveled to Chicago in March, 1902, returning home on 4 March, 1902[7]. One E H Stockdale, visited O H Bare family on 6 Sept., 1911[8]. On 12 Aug., 1913, Oren and Mrs. Bare with the Spaltls left for Clear Lake[9]. And in June, 1914, had company of Mrs A L Tullis and daughter Ethel for several days[10].
Apparently, Oren liked to fish. According to a newspaper article dated 19 June, 1919 Oren, his son Lloyd and a few others went to Spirit Lake, IA to try their luck[11].
In Sept., 1942, O. H. Bare received a disbursement of $120.99 for paint from the school district of Pleasantville for paint, etc[12]. And on 15 June, 1942 school board disbursements lists O H Bare $197.08 for supplies from school house fund and $1.97 from general fund[13].
Oren passed away on 9 May, 1945, in Pleasantville, Marion Cty. IA. Cause of death was arterial scleroses with senility. He was buried in Pleasantville Cemetery, Pleasantville, Marion County, Iowa[14][15].
