Biography

Robert died aboard ship during the Civil War, near Cairo, IL, en route to St. Louis General Hospital, St Louis, MO and is buried in Mound City National Cemetery, Pulaski County, IL, USA

The middle name of Crooks is the surname of Robert's grandparents, Richard Crooks, b. October 08, 1745, Ireland, d. abt. 1818, Bath County, Kentucky and Levinah Dorsay Wilson Crooks. Their daughter, Sarah Crooks, b. February 06, 1772, Washington County, Pennsylvania, d. August 31, 1847, Youngville, Ohio, married: Andrew Shanklin, September 20, 1768, Rockingham County, Virginia, d. March 01, 1836, Montgomery county, Virginia. They had 12 children, two of which are Lavina and Polly Mary Shanklin, who married Lazarus and Edward Edmund Barkley.
