Biography

Grace was born on the 12th November 1874 the daughter of James Faraday Barnard and Elizabeth Cooper (Jennings) Barnard. Grace's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1874 in the Islington district.^[1]

1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 Grace was living at 36 Hamilton Road, Islington, Middlesex with her parents James and Elizabeth, and her siblings Edith, Harold, Archie and Jessie.^[2][3]

1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 Grace was a visitor at Beauchamp Lodge, Chase Side, Enfield, Middlesex.^[4]

1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Grace was living at 36 Hamilton Road, Islington, Middlesex with her parents James and Elizabeth, and her siblings Archie and Dorothea.^[5]

1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 Grace was living at 36 Hamilton Road, Islington, Middlesex with her widowed mother Elizabeth, and her siblings Hugh, Archie, Jessie and Dorothea.^[6]

Grace, of 36 Hamilton Road, Islington, Middlesex, died aged 45 in the Royal Hospital, Lambeth, Surrey on the 8th October 1920. Grace's death (age 45) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1920 in the Southwark district.^[7]

Administration of Grace's estate, £364 16s. 6d., took place in London on the 14th February 1921 and passed to her sister Dorothea Barnard a spinster.^[8]

Research Note

Based originally on a Barnard family bible, and unless otherwise sourced, any precise dates are as shown on hand-written notes (page 25) compiled about the 11th December 1878 by John Barnard (1797-1880) Barnard-4046, living at 12 Compton Terrace, Canonbury, Middlesex from before 1861 until his death. Also shown, in different handwriting, is one of his children Katherine Barnard (1844-1912) Barnard-4055 living at 12 Highbury Terrace, Islington, Middlesex from before 1911 until her death, and one of his grandchildren Kate Barnard Blaikley (1879-1969) Blaikley-22 living at 5 Canfield Gardens, Hampstead, Middlesex from before 1939 until before her death. These hand-written notes record the Barnard family, and others, commencing with William Barnard (1605-1682) through to a John Barnard, a farmer in 1898, living at Haslingfield, 1¼ miles from Barrington, Cambridgeshire, where Barnard ancestors had lived since 1605. A copy of these notes is in the possession of Trevor Pickup (Pickup-177) and Michael Pickup (Pickup-178).
