Biography

Rachel was born 16 January 1763 (likely in Virginia Colony), the daughter of Robert Barnett and Mary Montgomery; she is the cousin of her husband Joseph Barnett^[1] . She died in 1813 and is buried in the Barnett Cemetery in Madison County, Kentucky^[2]

Marriage

Rachel and Joseph were married 7 October 1789 in Madison Co., Kentucky^[3] Her name was listed as Rebecca in the marriage record, but as Rachel in the marriage bond (below) and in Thelma Murphy (1988).

On 6 Sept. 1789 a 50 pound marriage bond was paid to Virginia by Joseph & James Barnett (indexed in Madison Co., KY). Rachel was listed as a "spinster" and is confirmed as over 21 years of age since no parent was listed as giving permission to marry. ^[4]

Children

Joseph and Rachel are said to have had nine children per Thelma Murphy (1988). Only the following is legible in my copy; a full copy can be obtained from the Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, KY-Call #929 B261m.
