"Death of Mr Oscar Basedow, Son of Early Tanunda Printer and Min. of Education." ——<>—— "MR. Oscar Basedow, 83, of St. Peters, who died on April 19, was the eldest son of an early Tanunda printer, Mr M. P. F. Basedow, who for many years was also a Member of Parliament, and for some time Minister of Education. Oscar was the last surviving son of the large family; the late Dr H. Basedow being a half brother, two of whose sisters, Misses Elsa and Hedwig Basedow, reside at Kent Town. Mr Oscar Basedow, who was born at Tanunda, walked regularly to Ang- aston to school, and as a boy helped in his father's printery, located opposite the Tanunda Club. Later he moved to Adelaide and became a partner in the printing firm of Basedow, Eimer and Company. He relinquished his in- terests in printing in 1916, and con-centrated on his Tanunda winery. In 1919 his elder son, Fritz, took charge at Tanunda, and later his younger son, Hans, also came here. Mr Basedow's visits to Tanunda then became less frequent, but always he retained and treasured the many fine friendships formed there. He was held in high regard throughout the whole district."

"At the funeral in West Terrace cemetery on April 20, two of his Tanunda staff, Messrs A. Koithan and W. Hamann, were bearers with Messrs H. and W. Menz, E. Tillemann and C. Cassebohm. Among the numerous beautiful floral tributes were many from various institutions and firms. The surviving family comprises Messrs Fritz and Hans, of Tanunda, and Magda (Mrs Skuse) of St. Peters.
