Biography
Janet Elizabeth Balsbaugh, 92, of Peabody Retirement Community, formerly of 1514 N. Wayne Street, North Manchester, Indiana, died at 7:00 am Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born June 22, 1913 in Warsaw, Indiana to Flint E. and Frances W. (Richhart) Bash. She married Dr. George K. Balsbaugh in Warsaw on August 12, 1939; he died October 5, 1973.
She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1931, and graduated from Indiana University in 1935 with a B.S. in Education. She taught 3rd grade at Beech Grove, Indiana four years.
She was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church, a past member of the Fine Arts Club, and a past member of Tri Kappa Sorority, all of North Manchester. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Indiana University. She had been a volunteer at Peabody Retirement Community since 1974 and lived in North Manchester since 1939.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy K. Balsbaugh of New York, New York, Susan (Dr. John) Abraham of Santa Ana, California, Rebecca (James) Almond of Greenfield; brother, Dr. Wallace (Jean) Bash of St. Augustine, Florida; granddaughter, Amy Almond of Fishers, Indina; and grandson, Andrew Almond of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Graham.
