Biography

Jimmy Baskin, age 76, passed away November 7, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Paris, AR on April 25, 1934. He was the twelfth of 13 children born to William Ambros and Myrtie Baskin in the McLain Bottoms. After graduating from Paris High as a celebrated athlete he went on to graduate from Arkansas Tech with a degree in Physical Education. He served as a career Military Police officer in the Army for 20 years with tours of duty in France and Vietnam. After retiring with the rank of Major, he then worked for the Department of Defense for 20 years doing security inspections for chemical, nuclear and biological warfare installations around the world. He retired in Georgia in 1999. Jim was a deacon at Avondale Estates First Baptist Church and most recently was a member of North Metro First Baptist Church. He was also a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge in Paris, AR. He loved to hunt and fish and cheer for the Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals. He loved taking long drives in the country with Ina and eating her homemade peach ice cream.

Jim was married for almost 58 years to his high school sweetheart, Ina Wood Baskin. He was devoted to her and their two children, Tery Lee (Mary) Baskin of Little Rock, and Jimmie Catherine (John) Coleman of Lawrenceville, GA, and their four grandchildren, Julie Baskin (Randy) Lewis of Little Rock, Jeffrey Baskin of Russellville, and Sydney and Austin Coleman of Lawrenceville, GA. His brothers and sisters included Carol Baskin, Vera Baskin, Irene Alvis, Carl Baskin, Sarah Carolyn(Crick) Denton, Jean Curd, Harl (Bud) Baskin, William (Junior) Baskin, Hilda Mooney, Gerald Baskin, Virginia (Sis) Thomas, and Donald Lee Baskin.

Visitation will be at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, AR from 12:00-2:00 on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, AR at 2:00 on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 with burial following at Elizabeth Hall Cemetery in New Blaine, AR under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Baskin, Austin Coleman, John Coleman, Randy Lewis, Gary Denton, Iver Jacobson and John McReynolds.
