Biography

Isabella (Bate) Smith was born in Staffordshire, England.

Isabella was born in the first quarter of 1842 in Rugeley, Staffordshire, England, daughter of Thomas Bate and Mary Yeld Bate,^[1] where she was christened on 27 January 1843.^[2]

She and Rev Andrew Doria declared their intention to marry on 3 Aug 1865 ^[3] and were married on 5 Aug 1865 in Cheshire, England, when Andrew was 32 years old. They had one daughter, Isabelle. He died in 1867. About two years later in 1869 she married Johnson Parker Smith ^[4]. and they had four children, a daughter, Mary, and three sons, Robert, Henry, and Johnson Jr. In 1881 they were living in Chelford, Cheshire where Mr Smith was a Merchant. ^[5]

Although no death records have been found, she apparently died in 1911 in Marple, Cheshire, England, where they had been living for about thirty years. Isabella was apparently ill and probably died soon after the census of 1911 was taken. ^[6]
