Rowland was the son of Colthurst Bateman and Jane Dobson.

He matriculated at Trinity College Dublin on 18th February 1801 aged 18. B.A. 1804 ^[1]

Rowland married Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, widow of James Eddington and daughter of Maurice Fitzmaurice on 26 March 1840.

March 26 in Duagh Church, the Rev. Rowland Bateman, of Kilcara, Kerry, to Elizabeth, widow of the late James Eiddingtoun, Esq., of Gargeunock House. Stirlingshire, and eldest daughter of Maurice Fitzmaurice, Esq., of Duagh House.

Rowland died at Killcarra Lodge from cholera, his normal residence was Ballydonoghue.^[2][3]
