Gilbert Bates, born in NY, possibly Dutchess Co, died 1836 Shelby Co, IND; Rachel Covey possibly born in Conn, dau of Samuel Covey born 1761 Dutchess Co NY and died abt 1840 Jefferson Co, Tenn. Gilbert is the son of Isaac Bates (not born in VA) and died 1825 Huntsville Randolph Co, MO, his mother Elizabeth Ann Tobey died 1810-1820 in MO.It is incorrect to say that there has been no DNA testing, a claimed deces of Gilbert has Ydan testing, google upo the Bates Project at FTDNA
