Biography

Elizabeth Bauss is estimated as born 1765-1775, based on her marriage and later census records.

Although her marriage lists her as "of Cocalico" in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, her son Nicholas 1880 census indicates that his parents were born in Prussia, suggesting that she emigrated with her family to Pennsylvania possibly in the 1770s.[1]

Elizabeth Bauss of Cocalico married Jacob Kraushaar on 10 Aug 1790 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States.[2]

In the 1820 US census, Jacob Crouschorn was living in Pendleton, Virginia (now West Virginia). His household included one male under 10, three males 10-15, two males 16-25, one male 45 and over (Jacob), one female 16-25, and one female 45 and over (born before 1776, likely Elizabeth).[3]

In the 1830 census for Pendleton, Virginia, there are household records for Jacob Croushorn and John Croushorn, both 20-29 years old. John's household includes one male 15-19, himself, one female 10-14, and one female 60-69 years.[4] This suggests that her husband Jacob had died, and the household had been left to son John. Elizabeth was listed as 60-69 years old (born about 1760-1770).

She is presumed to have died before 1840 based on her age and as she does not appear in John's household subsequently.

Research Notes

Birth and death dates highly suspect as Elizabeth was apparently 112 or 113 years old at death.
