Biography

3 Sep 1793 - James Beams marries Nancy Lay in Wilkes Co., N.C. with Jesse Lay as bondsman.[1]

1807 - James Beams first appears on the tax lists of Knox Co., Ky. His brother-in-law Jesse Lay preceded him by two years.

1818 - Whitley County, Ky., is formed from Knox County.

1819-1850 - James Beams appears on the tax lists of Whitley County.[2] He owns 120 acres on the Clear Fork.

1860 - James (92) and Nancy (91) are living with son Samuel and family. Federal census of Whitley County, Ky.[3]
