Biography

Charles (Beardsley) Beardslee is a descendant of the immigrants William Beardsley and Mary Harvie.

Charles was born in 1866. He is the son of Charles Beardsley and Lydia Sturdevant. He passed away in 1951.^[1]

Born in Ithaca, New York, came to Washington State in the 1870’s, and moved to Bothell in 1876. As a young man, Mr. Beardslee augmented his teaching income by driving logs down the Sammamish River. He married Mollie B. Keener, granddaughter of David Cameron Bothell, for whom the town was named. He was a teacher at Bothell and North Creek schools, and was known to allow his students to go fishing during recess. He became superintendent of schools in the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. A colorful personality in his day, he co-founded the Bothell State Bank, and founded the Bothell Cornet Band which became a top city attraction in the 1900s.

He was Secretary of the Odd Fellows platted cemetery in 1902. He served as justice of the peace in Bothell for many years, and also was a member of the Sammamish Valley Chapter of Pomona Grange, president of the East Side Federated Clubs, secretary of the North End Consolidated Clubs, a member of the Odd Fellows’ Lodge, and a member of the Washington State Pioneers’ Association. He was school principal when he retired in 1930. He died 18 Jul 1951.

Surviving him at death were three sons, Will G. Beardslee, Seattle attorney, John Beardslee, chief criminal deputy in the United States marshall’s office in Washington, D.C., and Fred Beardslee, Aberdeen; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Renalda and Mrs. Ray Brown, both of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Ruth Lynd, Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Beardslee Boulevard, in Bothell WA, is named for his son Charles Floyd Beardslee, a World War I Veteran. ^[2]
