Biography
Lyonel Becher was born 9 March1686 in County Cork, Ireland, son of Thomas Becher and Elizabeth Turner[1]
Lyonel Becher lived on Sherkin Island, Co. Cork, Ireland sometime between 1686 and 1769.
He married Catherine Dunscombe in 1712[1]
Their children:
- Catherine Becher died after 1769
- Harriet Becher (daughter of Lionel Becher) b. ?1716 m. 1739 Richard Sympson [2]
- Edward Becher b. c. 1714 m. Jane Bousfield 11 Aug 1756. Had issue. Married [2] Ruth Herrick and had 9 known children.
- Peniel Becher b. c. 1715 m. Randall Westropp in 1737 & had 9 children
- Thomas Becher died before 1786
- Susanna Becher died 30 April 1768
Lionel Becher (1686-1770), of Sherkin House ran a prosperous fishery on Sherkin Island with his son-in-law, Randall Westropp[1]
He passed away 10 Feb 1770.
1770 The Gentlemans & London Magazine “Monthly Chronical for Ireland; Deaths 10 Feb 1770 Lionel Becher of Cork died.”
Per will of Lionel Becher of Sherkin. Signed 4 Jan 1767, proved 16 Feb 1772. Wife Catherine Dunscombe, son Edward, Father-in-law William Dunscombe , said Catherine having died several years earler, leaving three daughters Catherine, Peniel married to Randall Westropp Esq Harriet Sympson, widow and younger son Edward. Grandsons Edward and Michael, sons of son Edward, Grandsons Lionel and Michael Westropp & John Sympson. Dau Susannah Becher deceased. Son-in-law Randall Westropp and Robert Travers of Cork & testator in partnership of a pilchard fishery. Bro Michael deceased. Executor son Edward Becher. witness James Freke, George Bushe, Edward Moriarty.
