Corp. Nicholas Jackson Beck was the son of Jesse Beck (1786-1867) and Mary Magdalena "Polly" Hinkle (1784-1844).[1]

Nicholas was married to Cassa Anna Bedwell (1835-aft 1870) on 31 October 1850, Indiana.[2][3][4]They had five children: Florence, Charles, Cephus Linder, Denver and John.

Civil War

Nicholas was living in Linton, Indiana at the time he enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 34, on 22 August 1862. He was mustered into Company I, 97th Regiment, Indiana Infantry.[5][6]

He was wounded in Mississippi, and died of his wound in the Regimental Hospital at Camp Sherman, Mississippi. He died on 31 August 1863. Corp. Beck is buried in Section F, 1378 of the Vicksburg National Cemetery.
