Biography

Samuel Robert Becket was born on 5 March 1843 in Toongabbie, New South Wales, Australia ^[1], the son of Ann Beckett and father not named. He was born two years before his mother's marriage to Morgan Hygnus Power and it is not determined that Morgan was his father, but it is generally assumed that he was and he was known as Samuel Robert Power until his death.

He was the brother of Anna Selena Rebecca Power, George Thomas Power, William Henry Power, Martha Elizabeth (Power) Bye, Emma Anne (Power) Angel, Jane Elizabeth (Power) Wild, Edward Morgan Power, Ellen Maria (Power) Angel, Sarah Alice Power and Morgan Power.

He married Louisa Ann Andrews on 4 February 1862 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia ^[2]and they were the parents of Harriet Amelia (Power) Howard, Charlotte Mary (Power) Mulloy, Samuel Robert Power Jr, Emily Ann (Power) Harriden, Isabella (Power) Grant, Maude Power, Edith Power, Alfred George Power, Stella (Power) Graham, Charles Oswald Power, Elsie M Power and Ethel Rose (Power) Nesbitt. Sadly, Louisa died in 1889.

He then married Pamela Saxon on 18 January 1893 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia ^[3]and they were the parents of Daisy Beulah (Power) King and Annie Ruby (Power) Clayton.

Samuel died on 27 May 1921 in Gumly Gumly, New South Wales, Australia ^[4] and he was buried in the Wagga Wagga Monumental Cemetery, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia ^[5][6].

6. ↑ Obituary: The Daily Express (Wagga Wagga, NSW: 1919 - 1930) Sat 28 May 1921 Page 2 OBITUARY: "MR, SAMUEL ROBERT POWER Word was received in Wagga yesterday of the death of Mr. Samuel Robert Power, of "Rosemont," Gumly Gumly, Forest Hill, in his 80th year. He was one of the oldest residents of the Wagga district, and was a noted Judge of stock. Born at Toongabbie near Sydney in 1842 he first came to Wagga with his parents at the age of nine years. He has been in the district ever since. His first wife who was a daughter of the late Major Andrews, died 32 years ago. He subsequently married again, his second wife being a daughter of the late Mr J. A. Saxon, of Kyeamba Meadows. For some years he farmed Kimo Statton, near Gundagai. When he went to Gumly Gumly in 1861, he was one of the first residents of the locality, and he lived there continuously until his death. His sons now living are Messrs. S. R. Power Junr., Geo. Power and Oswald Power. His daughters are Mrs. Syd. .Howard (Seven Hills), Mrs E. Harriden (Glebe Coffee Palace, Wagga), Mrs. C. Conway (Tarcutta Street), Mrs. Geo. Graham and Mrs. K. G. Nesbitt (Wagga), Mrs. O. King (Lockhart); and Miss Ruby Power (Forest Hill). The funeral will take place in Wagga this afternoon as advertised.
