Louis Bedard was born and baptized on 14 Jan 1829 in Saint-Charles parish in Charlesbourg, Bas-Canada. He was the son of Joseph François Bedard and Marie Francoise Bedard. Sponsors at Louis' baptism were Pierre Bedard and Marguerite ______; neither sponsor signed the register.

At age 29 Louis married Marie Sara Lemay on 3 Nov 1858 in Saint-Flavien parish in Lotbinière. There were five known children born into this marriage
