Biography

His obituary: in The Wave [undated clipping]: "Charles Benjamin Bedell, a lifelong resident of the Beach, died last Thursday in Rockaway Beach Hospital after an illness of several months. He was taken to the hospital two weeks previous when his condition became grave. His home was 92-11 De Soto and his age was 65. For 40 years he had been employed by the Long Island Rail Road as a foreman of bridge carpenters on the trestle over Jamaica Bay and other sections of the Island. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Bridge Carpenters and the Volunteer Relief Society, and was well known throughout the community.

Surviving are his wife Agnes; a daughter Mrs. Rowland Seaman of this place; three sisters Mrs. John C. Young, Mrs. Henry Otten, and Mrs. Douglas Coulter, all of Bellaire; two brothers, Alfred J. Bedell of Madalin, N.Y., and Willis P. Bedell of Brooklyn, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Elmer J. Snyder Funeral Parlor, the Rev. Ellsworth T. Richardson of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial was in Rockville Center cemetery under the direction of Minnie E. Snyder."
