The best biographical sketch of Samuel Beeson is found in The History of Marshall County, Iowa[1] published in 1878. Liscomb Township was not organized until 1870 but the few early settlers there arrived in 1850. Samuel purchased property there in the Fall of 1854 and moved to his claim there in June 1855. At that time only 14 persons lived in the township. He had married Martha Smith 16 Apr 1837[2] and they had twelve children.
To quote from the History of Marshall County, Mr. Beeson, in speaking of the condition of the county, said, "It was all wild prairie, with no settlement excepting along the timber near the Iowa River, where there were some few settlers. In May and June of 1854, the land was nearly all entered for about six miles east of the Iowa."
His brother Henry Beeson had come to the county in 1853, claimed land, and moved there Spring 1855. Both Henry and his wife died and the care of the children fell to Samuel Beeson and his wife.[1]
In 1857, Samuel Beeson hauled 112 1/2 bushels of wheat sixty miles to Marengo for which he received $40.50.[1]
He passed away 6 Jul 1898 at Liscomb with his son General B.A. Beeson present.[2]
