The 1841 census lists him as age 35-39, living with his wife Grace and daughters Elizabeth (5), Ann (2) and Eliza (0)

The 1851 Census lists him as a 46 year old Carpenter living in Merther, Cornwall with his wife Grace and children Elizabeth (14), Eliza (10), Mary Anne (8) and Emma (5)

In 1861 he is listed as a 56 year old Carpenter living in Merther with his wife Grace and daughter Mary (12)

The 1871 census lists him as a 66 year old Carpenter living in Merther, Cornwall, England with his 66 year old wife Grace (who was born in St Dennis), Daughter Eliza Best (30) and three grandchildren: Eliza J Kendall (11, born in Merther), Elizabeth B Best (6, born St Dennis), Aseneth M Best (4, born St Dennis) and Emma J Best (0, born St Dennis)^[3]

He was buried 23 Oct 1879, age 74 ^[4]
