Biography

Birth

Walter was Baptised on 15 Mar 1778 in Kirkburn to parents Walter Beilby (bef.1737-bef.1801) and Elizabeth (Danby) Beilby (1745-)[1].

Marriages

Walter married twice. His first marriage was to Ellis (Boyes) Beilby (bef.1763-abt.1819);

York Marriage Licence - On the 18th February 1805, Walter Beilby, age 26, of Hull, and Ellis Boyes, age 35 also of Hull were granted a licence to marry[2]. Walter Beilby of this parish, Gentleman, and Ellis Boyes of the same, spinster were married by licence on 27th February 1805. Witnesses were Thos Scatcherd and Bryan Boyes. [3][4]

The following was published in the York Herald on 09 March 1805, Marriages

Lateley, Mr. Walter Beilby, of the Customs, at Hull, to Miss Ellis Boyes, daughter of Bethel Boyes, Esq. all of Hull[5].

After the death of Ellis, he married Jane Frank;

At All Saints, Sculcoates in Yorkshire, Walter Beilby, of Sculcoates, officer in the customs & a widower, married Jane Frank of Sculcoates, spinster by licence, on 13th July 1820. Witnesses were Ann Frank, Ellis B Beilby and Reuben Craven. [6], On the 10th July 1820, Walter Beilby, age 40, and Jane Frank, age 34, both of Sculcoates received a licence on the 10th July 1820 to marry at Sculcoates. [7]

The following was published in the Sheffield Independent Saturday 22 July 1820

On Thursday week.,.... Same day, at Sculcoates Church, Mr. Beilby, of the Customs, to Miss Jane Frank, both of Hull.

Children

Walter and Ellis had a daughter Ellis Boyes Beilby (1806-1822) on 20 July 1806. Sadly she died young at the age of 16 on 27 July 1822, at Hornsea in Yorkshire where she had gone for the benefit of her health. She was only 4 years old when her mother passed away in April 1812. It does not appear that Walter had any other children.

Walter passed away in 1843, registered at Sculcoates in Yorkshire.[9]
