William was born in Scotland in 1829 [1]and died in Waimea West in 1889 at 60 years of age.[2]
He married Mary Dron in Scotland in 1849 prior to embarking on their voyage to Nelson, New Zealand on the Lady Nugent in 1849.
They had a number of children including:

Probate records of William Bell indicate that he owned and farmed section 151 and 159 Waimea West and that the Homestead was on section 159. [3]
His occupation is listed as a Sawyer, Waimea West in a list of persons qualified to be jurors in 1860-1861.
[4] Listed as having a small holding of sheep, quantity 49 & 24 respectively in 1891 and 1892 [5]
He died at Waimea West, Nelson, New Zealand on 11 November 1889. He is buried in Waimea West Cemetery, Brightwater, Tasman District, New Zealand. [6][7]
