Biography

Henry was born in 1880. He was the son of James Bell and Annie Dipplesmann. He passed away in 1963.

Harry's first job was as cellarman at Kircher's Assmanshausen Winery and later the Serisier's Toolburra Winery. Subsequently he owned two grazing properties in the Sandy Creek district (near Warwick, Queensland) where he engaged in cattle raising and dealing for some years. Later he took over the 'Zenith Soap Works' in Percy Street, Warwick which was established by his wife's father, Mr J. Marlton. He had married Beatrice Marlton on 20th March 1918. His next venture was to purchase the old Warwick Hotel building situated on the corner of Albion and Victoria Streets, Warwick which was adjoining his home. He converted the old Warwick Hotel into three flats. Harry is best remembered as the 'Warwick Flyer'. He holds pride of place as the most outstanding athlete of all the pupils of the Sandy Creek State School. Another smashing feat of his was in his prime, was jumping over two draught horses standing side by side. Harry was regarded by many as the best all round athlete in Queensland.
