Biography

Nancy was born in 1842 and baptised Nancy Bennetts on 23 July 1843, Perranzabuloe, the daughter of Hezekiah Bennett and Mary Nance.[1] [2]

The family of Hezekiah & Mary Bennets were living in Goonhaven, Probus in the Parish of Perranzabuloe.

Nancy moved with her parents to Australia, they arrived in South Australia on the ship "Australia" on the 22 Jan 1856.[4] [5]

The travelling party consisted of

  1. Hezekiah (Bennett) Bennetts (bef.1818-1900), aged 36, Miner, residence of Perranzauboe travelling with family
  2. Mary, aged 45
  3. Nancy, aged 14, Servant, residence of Perranzauboe travelling in the single women’s section but with parents
  4. Rebecca, aged 5
  5. Mary, aged 1
  6. Elizabeth Ann Vivian, servant, no age listed nor place of original, travelling in the single women’s section [possibly a family friend as she is recorded as living with the family in Forest Creek, Victoria].[6]

After arrival, they made their way to Victoria and settled down to live in a tent on the goldfields in Forest Creek.

Nancy married John Pollard in 1860 in Victoria, Australia.[7]

Nancy passed away in August 1884 in Chewton and is buried in Chewton Cemetery, Chewton, Victoria, Australia.[8][9]

FUNERAL NOTICE. - THE Friends of the late Mrs Nancy Pollard are respectfully invited to follow her remains to the Chewton Cemetery. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr John Pollard, Charcoal Gully, Chewton, TO-MORROW, (Sunday), at half-past 3 o'clock. THOMAS ODGERS, Undertaker[10]
