Keith Ian Benson was born on 3rd July 1915 in Moonee Ponds, Victoria, Australia, the son of [[Benson-7712|Robert Fleming Benson (1885-1955)and Nina Craven. [1]

On 19th June 1940, Keith enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force for military service overseas during the Second World War. He was commissioned a a Lieutenant. He was discharged on 10th March 1945. [2] He was allocated to the 2/23rd Australian Infantry Battalion. [3]
Keith's engagement to Pauline Alice Crick (1918-2009) was announced on 7th May 1943. [4]
