A wedding took place at the Shirebrook P.M. Church on Wednesday (6th August 1924), the Rev. R. G. Trussell, circuit minister, Mansfield Woodhouse, officiating. The bridegroom was Mr. Stanley Dinner, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dinner of Boyton, Cornwall, and the bride Miss Elizabeth Miriam Benstead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Benstead, Shirebrook. The bridegroom for a number of years has been assistant master at the Carter Lane Senior Boy's School, Shirebrook, under Mr. Tho(ma)s Reay and on Friday prior to to the school summer vacation, the head master, on behalf of the school, presented Mr. Dinner with a biscuit barrel and cake stand. Both bride and bridegroom are active members of the Shirebrook P.M. Church and Sunday School. For some time Miss Benstead has been choir secretary, while both she and Mr. Dinner are members of the choir.
The service was fully choral, and the hymns were "How welcome was the call" and "Since Jesus freely did appear". Mr. Fred Sanders was at the organ and played suitable music as the bridal party entered the church. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in ivory brocade with bridal veil and orange blossom and carried a shower bouquet of white carnations, the gift of the bridegroom. The bride was accompanied by six maids, who wore dressed of turquois blue shot pailette with black hats, carried bouquets of pale pink carnations, and wore bead necklaces, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were Miss Doris Dennison and Miss Joyce Badcock (cousins of the bride), Miss Blanch Dinner (sister of the bridgroom), and Miss Lily Mitchell and Misses Amy and Doris Green (friends of the bride). Mr. Wm. Dinner jnr. (Boyton), brother of the bridegroom acted as best man and Mr. Gower Thomas, Treherbert, South wales, and old army comrade of the bridegroom was also present.
During the signing of register the organist played Mendelssohn's Wedding March, and the happy couple left the Church amid a shower of confetti. A reception was afterwards held in the P.M. schoolroom, where a large number of guests were entertained. Later in the day the happy couple left for Hunstanton for the honeymoon. The bride's going away dress was a brown costume with golden brown hat trimmed with flowers and she wore a red fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom."[6]
In 1939 Elizabeth Miriam and Stanley John were living at 262 Prospect Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England[1]
Elizabeth Miriam died in 1978 in Cornwall, England[2].
