Elizabeth was born in 1844. She was the daughter of Gilbert Bent and Mary Bath. She was probably born in St. John as the Bent Family history indicates her father moved from Nova Scotia in 1843. She didn't marry. She lived with her parents on Orange Street in the Queens Ward of St. John (latter spelled Saint John). Her father and two of her brothers ran a successful wholesale grocery company Gilbert Bent & Sons. Elizabeth's mother died in 1878 and her father remarried the much younger Matilda Breeze, whose brother was in the grocery business. After her father's death, Elizabeth lived with Matilda, in one of those strange situations where the stepdaughter was 6 years younger than the stepmother. Elizabeth passed away in 1931 and was buried in Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John.
