Biography

Military Service: "Confederate" Company H 59th Volunteers, and was soon commissioned Lieutenant. At the battle of Baker's Creek, near Staunton, Virginia, he was wounded, but upon recovery rejoined his company and near the close of the war was promoted to a Captaincy.

Edmond H Benton, The founder of Bentonville (now Edhube), Texas, is a native of McMinn County, Tennessee, and was born September 29, 1834.

Marriage of Edmond Benton took place on November 29, 1860, to Mary E. Thomasson, of Tennessee.

Parents of eight children, in the following order: James W., Louise, John C., Thomas, Joseph O., Edmond E., Mack D., and Minnie Alice. The first three children born to E H and Mary E Benton were born in Tennessee and came to Texas with their parents.

He is a Master Mason, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
