Biography

A variety of online genealogies ^[1] collectively suggest that Adriaantje was born between 1725 and 1735, likely at Opijnen/Drumpt/Ophemert, to parents Barend Peters van Klodewijk and Wilhelmina Lucretia "Kreesje" Huijgen. Considering typical naming patterns, the names of Adriaantje's first daughter(s) and second son certainly appear to support this suggestion. The birth years of Ariaantje's known children (1748 through 1768) given 'typical' childbearing ages suggests a narrower range of birth years of 1725-1730.

Looking for records to confirm this relationship we find baptisms starting 1729 at Avezaath ^[2], and later at Wadenoijen ^[3] for children of Bernt Petersse and wife Lucresia or Creesken. The family name in these baptismal records evolves from "van Clootwijk" through "van Klootwijk" to "van Klodewijk" - these later records help persuade us to accept a 2 February, 1727 baptism at Drumpt for Ariaantje, daughter of Berent Petersen and Lucretia. ^[4]

Ariaantje's parents are associated with a marriage record dated 11 February 1725 at Ophemert - in this record their names are given as Barend Peterse (of Ophemert) and Wilhelmina Lucretia Huijgen (of Drumpt) ^{[5] [6]}. It is therefore inferred that Adriaantje was born with a patronymic and the family name was adopted during her life.

With 11 children there is no question that Ariaantje was the wife of Jan Ballegoijen however a record of their marriage has not yet been located. Known children of the couple, all baptized at Opijnen are:

Adriaantje van Klootwijk, widow of Jan van Balgojen died in 1807. ^[7]
