When John Berrey was born on March 22, 1728, in Middlesex County, Virginia, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Jemima, was 24. He married Susannah Schmidt Smith in 1761 possibly in Culpeper County, Virginia. They had four children in 13 years.

He died in 1797 in Madison, Virginia, [1][2] at the age of 69.
