Johnny Berry was born in 1901 in Arkansas to Robert Berry and Rose Stoner. [1]

He married Ruby Arnold and they had five children. After Ruby's death, he married Nora Boles.

Johnny worked for his sister-in-law at the Silica Sand Mines in Guion, Arkansas. It was there that he contracted silicosis. He died in 1942, leaving behind four children who were raised by their grandmother, Lucy Berg. He is buried by his second wife at Roselawn Cemetery in Izard County, Arkansas.[2]

Berry; one brother, Elmer Berry; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Stevens and Mrs Thelma Arnold, all of Franklin. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Owens & Co.[3]

Notes

Named after his father, but normally known as Johnny Berry.

Note from Jaydine Morton, 8/25/1999.

I had just talked to Aunt Willie and George was Uncle Johnny's name. The age threw me as I did not realize that he was a year older than Aunt Willie, but she said that was right. I figured Jack could straighten you out. They did have two more kids after Ruby, who married a Stevens. They were Johnny, a girl, who was a blue baby and she died at age 4. Then they had Hayden.

He died soon after birth. Aunt Willie said that Uncle Elmer was grown when Hayden died, but she could remember how hard he took the death. Johnny was just a nickname for Uncle Johnny.
