George Pley Berry was born circa 1693, in St. Mary's Parish, Richmond, Virginia, a son of Henry Berry, born circa 1652, in Sittingbourne Parish, Old Rappanhannock county, Virginia, who died October 7, 1695 in St Mary's Parish, Richmond county Virginia.
After his father's death, George's mother, Sarah Harper, daughter of William Harper, and Mary Gray, married secondly, John Spiller, born before 1650, in Northumberland county, Virginia. On September 9, 1714, John Spiller and Sarah, his wife, and only heir at Law of William Harper, late of St. Ann's Parish, Essex county, Virginia gave George Plye Berry, "son of the said Sarah, for natural love and affection, but more especially in consideration of three thousand pound of food Tobacco," the plantation where William Harper dwelt at the time of his death, upon Occupation Crek, adj. the land of Richard Mathews, deceased, etc. [1]
George married a wife named Anne, whose maiden name is not known. Anne was born circa 1697 and died after 1733, in St Anne's Parish. They were the parents of a daughter, Anne Berry, born before 1719, in St Anne's Parish, who was George's heir.

Unto my brother Henry Berry all the land I have in Richmond County given and bequeathed to me by the last will of my deceased: father Henry Berry. My plantation, land and premises whereon now live (my wife Ann Berry's thirds or dowry excepted) unto, my daughter Anne Berry. Increase my said daughter should dye without heirs then to .my aforesaid. brother Henry Berry.
My-aforesaid. wife Ann Berry enjoy so much of my estate as the law allows her only: my personall estate unto my daughter Ann Berry
