The source is a family history written by "Squire" William Best ca. 1876, and typed out by some family member during the mid-20th century. Now in possession of William J. Watts (1943), and the Moore cousins at Stoney Lake (Penny and/or Pam, twin sisters) have a copy.
Belva M. Gardiner`s History of the Gardiner and Allied Families (Delmar, NY 1983) p. 110 explains that this David was killed in an accident on 5 Feb. 1849, leaving his Widow Eliza Shaw Best with 7 children, one of whom died two years later.
