Biography

Richard was baptised on 13 October 1721 at St Andrew Holborn, Middlesex. His parents, Captain Edward and Ursula Betenson, lived in Brunswick Row at the northwest corner of Queen Square, then on the outskirts of London.[1][2][3]

He married Lucretia Folkes at the chapel of St Mary Magdalene, Richmond, Surrey on 23 June 1756 by licence. He stated he was of the parish of St George the Martyr in Middlesex, indicating he still lived in the area of Queen Square (where the church of St George the Martyr stands).[4][5]

Richard died on 15 June 1786 and is commemorated with a plaque in the nave of St George's Church, Wrotham, Kent.[6]
