Robert Bettinson was born in Carrington, Lincolnshire and baptised on 27 September 1840 in the parish church at Carrington. He was the sixth of twelve children of George Bettinson (abt.1810-1850) and Sarah Holmes (abt.1815-1897). His father died in 1850 when he was 10 years old.
Robert is recorded in the 1841 census living with his parents at Carrington and in the 1851 census he is recorded living in Boston West Fen with his mother and seven of his siblings[2]. He has not been traced in the 1861 census.
He married Ellen Godfrey (bef.1846-) on 8 October 1866 at Holy Trinity, Paddington, London [3]. Robert and Eleanor had 10 children:

Robert Bettinson died on 16 April 1918. His death was recorded with the General Register Office [4] and probate was granted to his widow Ellen Bettinson on 21 May [5]
